Charles M. “Mel” Perrine, 75, of Laura, formerly of Covington, passed away Friday, May 6, 2016, at his residence. He was born October 30, 1940, in Piqua, to the late Charles M. and Catherine A. (Warner) Perrine.
Mel will be missed and remembered by his loving wife of 22 years, Helen E. “Betty” (Reider) Perrine of Laura; children Anthony “Tony” Perrine of Defiance, Amy Klein of Columbus, Anna Kihm of Covington, and Ali Perrine of Piqua; stepchildren Kris (Kevin) Stringer of Justin, Texas, Jeff Pyles of Fort Myers, Fla., Jacqueline (Joe) Gilmer of Tiffin, and Doug (Angie) Pyles of Fort Myers, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, Mariah, Ben, Cassie, Riley, Talor, Shelby, Seth, Ashley, Sydney, Justine, Brooke, Alex, Isaiah, Nathaniel, Emma, and Sophia; five great-grandchildren, Antonio, Taylor, Cora, Bella, and Atticus; brother Paul (Kathy) Perrine of Plano, Texas; brother-in-law Joe Hinten of Clermont, Fla.; and special friends Butch and Karen Wintrow, Ben Wolfe, Ed Wolfe, Mark Knupp, and Scott Blank. He was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Hinten.
Mel grew up in Covington and was a 1958 graduate of Covington High School. After high school, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from the General Motors Institute. Mel retired from NCR in 1995, and retired to his farm in the Laura area. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed farming and raising beef cattle, NASCAR, Ohio State basketball, and going to NASCAR races.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Jackson-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 10 S. High St., Covington. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park, Covington. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Darke County 4-H Program, 603 Wagner Ave., Greenville, OH 45331.
