Darrell G. Kiehl, 90, of Sidney, formerly of Piqua, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 21, 2024, at Ohio Living Dorothy Love. He was born August 13, 1934, in Covington, to the late Robert L. and Geneiveve E. (Fessler) Kiehl. He married Carlene (Hole) Kiehl on August 9, 1953, a marriage that spanned over 71 years; she survives in Sidney.
He will also be missed and remembered by his sons, Craig (Kim) Kiehl of Piqua and Douglas Kiehl (Robin Griffen) of Piqua; four grandchildren, Matthew (Tasha) Kiehl, Zachary (Alexandria) Kiehl, Cody Kiehl (Kat Burrows) and Clarissa Kiehl; seven great-grandchildren, Lillian, Connor, Jacob, William, Alexis, Benjamin & Lucas; his brother, Delbert (Jackie) Kiehl of Covington; and his sister Ruth Stollmer of Troy. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herschel Kiehl.
Darrell was a 1952 graduate of Houston High School and served two years in the U.S. Army. He retired from Hartzell Propeller after 42½ years of service, and then worked for the Miami County Park District. Always an active man, he owned and operated Tri-County Billiard Supply, and enjoyed trapshooting, fishing, playing bid euchre, bingo, and restoring old vehicles. Darrell was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Covington, and was an avid Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Reds fan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, at Moore Funeral Home, 10 S. High St., Covington, with Pastor Rachel Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park, where military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Friends may visit with the family from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Hospice or Ohio Living (Dorothy Love) Foundation. Online condolences may be left for the Kiehl family at moorefh.com.
