Debra Burgess

Debra Deanne Burgess, 68, of Covington, passed away Saturday morning, February 1, 2025, at Ohio’s Hospice, Troy. She was born August 27, 1956, in Greenville, to the late Donald Lee and Nancy Ann (Brumbaugh) Harrison. She is survived by her high school sweetheart, and loving husband of 47 years, Dennis L. Burgess.

She will also be missed and remembered by the daughter she adored, Dianna (Trent) Burgess-Hinger of Greenville; her beloved sisters, Denise (Bob) Boyer, Dawn Ann Harrison and Darcy Spade, all of Covington, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her dear son, Daniel Harrison Burgess in 2017; and her little brother, Donald Lee “Donnie” Harrison Jr. in 1981.

Debbie was a 1974 graduate of Covington High School. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Bowling Green, and a Master’s Degree from the University of Dayton. She worked for the Upper Valley JVS for 23 years as head librarian and media specialist, retiring in 1999. Her seasonal Christmas gift shop, The Treasure Trove, became a local holiday tradition for many shoppers as she welcomed them with her bright and cheery hospitality and selection of unique gifts. 

For more than 30 years, Debbie and her family enjoyed an annual vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina where she could be found on the beach expanding her extensive collection of seashells. She loved theme parties like Hawaiian luaus and pirate treasure hunts, and murder mystery games with her sisters, daughter and nieces. Her joyful laughter was contagious. Debbie’s favorite evening pastime was cruising with Denny in their trusty old convertible. 

Above all else, Debbie loved the Lord. She was a faithful prayer partner to many and a fearsome prayer warrior for her family. She often paraphrased the verse ‘This is the day that the Lord hath made. And I shall rejoice rejoice rejoice and be glad in it.’ Debbie was a member of Fields of Grace Worship Center and had previously served as the prayer chain director with the Women’s Aglow chapter of Englewood. 

Private funeral services will be held at Moore Funeral Home, Covington, with Pastor Don Solin officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park. There will be no public visitation.
