Donald Barnhart

Donald Gene “Don” Barnhart, 88, of Covington, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017, at his residence.  He was born February 22, 1929, in Fletcher, to the late Ivan Abram “Abe” and Ruth Mae (Pence) Barnhart.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Jean (Schulz) Barnhart in 1995.

Don will be missed and remembered by his three children, Catherine “Cathy” Barnhart of Covington, Stephen “Steve” Barnhart of Covington, and Timothy “Tim” (Connie) Barnhart of Sidney; two grandchildren, Alicia (Brandon) Ferguson and Andrew (Brittany) Barnhart; three great-grandchildren, Dominic, Kealsey, and Breese; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jo Barnhart of Colorado, Jack (Jeannette) Schulz of Troy, and Kay Tamplin of Piqua; numerous nieces and nephews; special neighbors Leon and Jewel Sink, and Steve and Marsha Elliott; and his feathered friend, Ruby.  Don was preceded in death by his siblings, Doyle (Effie) Barnhart, Ruth (Clyde) Burkett, Eileen Arnett, infant Derald Wayne Barnhart, Irvin Barnhart, and Delmer Barnhart.

Mr. Barnhart retired from CSX after many years working for the railroad as a track foreman, having also worked for B & O and Chessie Systems.  He was a member of the Covington Eagles Aerie #3998, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, mushroom hunting, movies, and music, especially country and western.  Don was also a rock hound and enjoyed just piddling around his property.

Graveside services to honor his life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua, with Chaplain Ed Ellis officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County, P.O. Box 502, Troy, OH 45373.  Arrangements are in care of Jackson-Sarver Funeral Home, Covington.  Online tributes may be left for the family at jackson-sarver.com.
