James B. “Jim” Manning, 70, of Covington, passed away at 9:59 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2016, at the Dayton VA Hospital. He was born April 28, 1946, in Piqua, to the late Jack E. and Dorethea (Coate) Manning.
Jim is survived by his brother, Jack L. (Deborah) Manning of Covington; a sister, Jane (Terry) Byers of Covington; nine nieces and nephews, Cindy (Tim) Angle of Covington, Leanne (Fred) Maury of Beavercreek, Jason (Robin) Byers of DeGraff, Barbara Babler of New Port Richey, Fla., Eric (Lisa) Radke of Eastham, Mass., Aaron Manning of Japan, Jennifer Schilling of Covington, Nathan (Sara) Manning of Atlanta, Ga., and Ginger (Robert) Supinger of Covington; 20 great-nieces and nephews; and nine great-great-nieces and nephews. A great-nephew, Gavin, preceded Jim in death.
Jim graduated from Covington High School, Class of 1964, and from Miami-Jacobs Business College in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army from May 1966 through May 1968, serving in the Vietnam War. He worked for many years at Champion International of Piqua, Manning Machine, Unibraze, and Starbrook of Covington until his retirement.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, at Jackson-Sarver Funeral Home, 10 S. High St., Covington, with Pastor Ralph Schaafsma officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Covington. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.
