Zanta Nishwitz, 99, of Troy, passed away Monday, May 18, 2015, at Hospice of Miami County Inpatient Unit, Troy, just nine days shy of her 100th birthday. She was born May 27, 1915, in Covington, to the late George Henry and Fannie Lillian (Rhoades) Finfrock. She married Floyd Nishwitz on July 17, 1949; he preceded her in death on November 23, 2006.
Mrs. Nishwitz will be missed and remembered by many nieces, nephews, and several generations of great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Lenore Finfrock.
Zanta was a graduate of Covington High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University. She retired from Troy City Schools after 43 years as a teacher at Forest School. She was an active longtime member of Friedens Lutheran Church, and had volunteered at the former Stouder Hospital for many years.
A funeral service to honor her life will be conducted at 12 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at Friedens Lutheran Church, 11038 W. Versailles Rd., Covington, with Pastor Bob Akins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Friedens Lutheran Church or Hospice of Miami County.
